Be Still . . .

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6 (NIV))
How many times have you heard this passage used at this time of year?
For those who profess a faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, this passage is central to that profession.
Recorded over 700 years before the birth of Jesus, God gave humanity a glimpse of the salvation that He had promised since the fall from grace.
I love the titles! These could even be considered names.
Wonderful Counselor - Mighty God - Everlasting Father - Prince of Peace
All four of these names are true, but there is one that too many people simply ignore. Even though they may say the words, they don't fully understand and acknowledge that the child whose birth we celebrate is also Mighty God!
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
(Isaiah 7:14 (NIV))
Isaiah had a habit of pointing to the deity of the child!
Isaiah recorded that He would be called Immanuel, which means God with us. He also recorded that the child would be called Mighty God.
Do you profess a faith in the child that Isaiah wrote of? Do you profess a faith in Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? If so, do you acknowledge Him as Immanuel and Mighty God?
What names do you know Jesus by?
