If only there were someone to mediate between us,
     someone to bring us together,
someone to remove God’s rod from me,
so that his terror would frighten me no more.
(Job 9:33-34 (NIV))

I love the way that God tells us what He is going to do before He does it!

The Book of Job's creation date is uncertain, but one thing is certain. The idea of a Savior is a timeless concept.

It doesn't take much of an imagination to come to the conclusion that this book can be seen as a story of humanity brought down to a personal experience. It has good versus evil. It has righteousness longing for redemption. It has adversaries saying that the righteous should give up and die. And, most importantly, it has the two passages as shown above!

It shows that the idea is not new. It shows that sinful, fallen humanity has always had hope for someone to intervene, to mediate for us.

It also shows that faithfulness, even in the face of adversity, is what we are to strive for.

Everyone knows what Job went through, but how many times do you hear of someone reminding you of what God did for Job due to his faithfulness?

The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part.
(Job 42:12a (NIV))

Job called out to the Lord. He longed for someone to act as a mediator. He longed for someone to bear the weight of any consequences of a sinful nature, even a sinful nature that was not intentional.

Today, we have that mediator.

His name is Jesus!
