You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
(1 John 4:4 (NIV))
If you profess a faith in Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you cling to this passage, but what happens when trials and tribulations come your way?
Do you fall prey to fear and anxiety, or do you hold fast in your faith?
Do you worry about what you will do, or do you have peace knowing that the Lord will see you through whatever you may be facing?
I would love to be able to say that I have never faced moments of fear and anxiety, but I am human. We all succumb to worry and fear, even when we profess a faith in Jesus. The key is to not stay in our fear, for we have a Savior who sticks closer than a brother. We are to rely on Jesus. We are to fully place our faith and trust in Him.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
(John 16:33 (NIV))
As believers in Jesus, each of us like to think that we have overcome the world. They key to this is that we often think that "we" have overcome the world by accepting Jesus, when in reality it is He who is carrying us because He has overcome the world. It is a matter of perspective. If we think that we are overcomers, we are relying on our own strength when we need to rely on His.
If you have placed your faith in Jesus, then what He has overcome can be yours if you are confident in Him and what He has done.
How confident are you of this?
