And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
(2 John 1:6 (NIV))

This passage is amazing!

However, it contains two words that seem to trigger people in today's society - love and obedience.

Our society wants to extend love to mean things that God never intended. It is used freely to imply sinful behavior. At the same time, society pushes back hard on the idea of being obedient, especially when it comes to being obedient to God's Word. Too many people think that they can be obedient to their own heart, but God's Word tells us differently.

The heart is deceitful above all things
     and beyond cure.
     Who can understand it?
(Jeremiah 17:9 (NIV))

The next passage from Jeremiah tells us the outcome if we follow Him instead of following our heart.

"I the Lord search the heart
     and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
     according to what their deeds deserve."
(Jeremiah 17:10 (NIV))

That brings me to one simple, yet logical question.

Do you desire to be rewarded by the Lord or do you desire your sinful nature as driven by your deceitful heart?

The choice is your.

Are you walking in obedience?
