Our actions have consequences!

Sow righteousness for yourselves,
     reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
     for it is time to seek the Lord,
until he comes
     and showers his righteousness on you.
(Hosea 10:12 (NIV))

The world is an uncertain place. Ever since the fall from grace, humanity has been troubled by sin. Today, we are seeing the consequences of this sin as it manifests itself in ways that many throughout history would find difficult to believe.

If you profess a faith in Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, the words recorded in Hosea, even though they were written before Jesus walked this earth, are still just as important to follow.

This passage makes me think of some sayings that society has adopted, and rightly so. Sayings like, "You are what you eat," and "Garbage in, garbage out," come to mind. These, and others, drive home the point that what we focus on is what we will become. To be honest with you, I had two passages come to mind when I sat down to write this devotional. The passage from Hosea and the following passage make it clear that our Lord and our God wants us to focus on righteousness.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
(Philippians 4:8 (NIV))

What do you focus on?

Do you spend most of your time chasing after the things of this world? Do you lust for fame and fortune? Do you seek your advantage first even if it means that others will pay the consequences, or do you seek first His kingdom and His righteousness?

We don't know what tomorrow will bring. We don't know if we will live to see another day. We don't know when He will return for His bride. What I do know is that if we profess to be His bride, we should behave as if we truly mean it. There is one very important thing that I have learned in this world.

Our actions have consequences!
