"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
(Exodus 20:12 (NIV))
We just celebrated Mother's Day. In a few weeks, we will celebrate Father's Day. Both of these days are days set aside to honor our fathers and our mothers, but what about the rest of the year?
Let me leave that last question there for you to think about.
Do you spend only a day a year honoring your parents? Is this the same as only spending an hour a week honoring the Lord?
Yes, I went there!
Too many people give only the very least to what they profess to honor. Too many people look at commitment as an afterthought and not a priority.
What about you?
How do your priorities align with what is in your heart?
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(Matthew 6:21 (NIV))
Do we treasure the Lord?
Do we treasure our parents?
Do these show in your life, or does something else show in your life?
We are given many words of wisdom within God's Word, but do we take them to heart? Do we truly obey what we are called to obey? Think about that and then honestly answer this question.
What do you honor with your life?
