He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
(Micah 6:8 (NIV))
Do you have a professional job description that covers what you are supposed to do at work?
If you are like most people, you were given a multiple page document that outlines what you are supposed to do. These are the requirements for completing the job that you accepted as yours.
As a believer in Jesus, we have also been given instructions outlining what we are supposed to do. We have been given requirements that call us to be obedient in our faith. Sadly, too many people do not follow all of them.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
(2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV))
When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus responded with these words.
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
(Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV))
Jesus boiled it down to the basics. If you take another look at the words recorded in Micah, they also provide a clear definition of what is required. In both passages, we are told to act justly and love mercy which is the same as loving your neighbor as yourself. We are also told to walk humbly with our God by loving Him with all our heart, soul and mind.
Take a good look at your life.
Are you doing all that is required?
