I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 3:14 (NIV))

How strong is your faith?

When prices just keep rising, do you press on knowing that this world is only temporary?

When family ties are tested and severed, do you press on in your faith?

When health issues impact your life or the lives of those you love, what do you do?

When the world seems to be embracing evil, do you press on toward God's righteousness?

When everything literally is falling apart, do you cling to your hope and faith in Jesus?

I could go on and on with examples, and I would probably never hit everything that impacts our human condition in this sinful, fallen world.

What was Paul pressing on toward?

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ - the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ - yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

Perhaps you prefer a running analogy.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
(Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV))

Either way, Paul was focused on following Jesus. He was committed. He desired to fully know the Jesus who appeared to him on the Damascus road. He desired to fully know the One who called him out of his darkness and made him a follower of His light. He was given a glimpse of the promises fulfilled and Paul wanted nothing more than to know Jesus no matter the cost.

He pressed on toward his goal.
