My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

We all think that we are good role models for these attributes, but what is the truth?

Are you more concerned with making sure your voice is heard or do you actually listen?

Do you wait to speak so that you understand everything?

Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
     and discerning if they hold their tongues.
(Proverbs 17:28 (NIV))

Do you get angry and explode when you should be an example of restraint?

I know that each of us have our momentary lapses when it comes to these things. No one is perfect, but do you instantly regret your actions and repent, or do you act as if nothing happened?

How does Jesus see you?

Think about that for a moment. Are you living as He desires, or are you following your own worldly desires? Are you prideful, boastful and obnoxious, or are you exhibiting the following traits?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
(Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV))

If your family and friends were asked about you, would they praise your ability to listen, to speak appropriately, and to keep from getting angry, or would they condemn you for your actions?

We may fool ourselves, but we can't fool the Lord and we can't fool other people.

Think about that.
