"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.
(John 6:67 (NIV))

Today, we understand the meaning of the words that Jesus used to describe the symbolic partaking of His body and His blood, but put yourself in the sandals of those who were hearing it for the very first time.

How would you react?

Many people who had been following Jesus decided that this was a hard teaching. They were probably thinking to themselves, "What have I gotten myself into?"

They simply deserted!

They walked away from the greatest gift that anyone could ever receive simply because they didn't understand what Jesus was saying, so they left!

Today, we have two thousand years of study and understanding to firmly ground us in our faith, yet, I am certain that each of us have had instances where we were presented with words that Jesus spoke that sounded hard to us, too. I am certain that each of us have contemplated these hard teachings and asked ourselves if it was worth it. To be honest with you, every day brings up something that is a hard teaching if I look at it through worldly eyes. It is at these very moments that I need to remind myself of the answer that was given when He asked the question of His twelve.

Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God."
(John 6:68-69 (NIV))

To put it into perspective, this doubt is from the enemy. We must put on the full armor of God to withstand these attacks of doubt.

Have you ever thought about walking away from God's grace?

Have you ever thought that what you are called to is too difficult?

We must learn to stand firm in our faith!

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
(Hebrews 11:1 (NIV))

Are you in it to the end?
