"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
(Matthew 22:21b (NIV))
Did you breathe a big sigh of relief after filing your taxes?
I don't know a single person who actually likes taxes. Everyone wonders if they will owe or if they will get money back.
Think about that for a moment.
If we spent as much time worried about what we give to God, is it possible that we wouldn't have to worry about paying "Caesar?" To be honest with you, I believe that we wouldn't worry about the things of this world if we truly focused on the Lord. We have a tendency to spend too much time worried about gaining something in this physical, fallen world that we become focused on the root of all evil instead of focusing on the true treasure.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
(1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV))
Do you love money?
Is money just a tool, an object, that we need in order to live in this sinful, fallen world, or is it your first love? Is it your treasure?
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(Matthew 6:21 (NIV))
Do you love God? Do your actions reflect what your words proclaim?
Are you truly giving to God?
