Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
(Matthew 11:28 (NIV))
What do you think of when you think of rest?
Do you think of being able to sleep late? Do you think of a long weekend? Do you think of a vacation?
Is your definition of rest a break from work where you are able to experience much needed relaxation, or are you more of a do what you want to do type of person? Do you sit in front of a TV and binge watch something all weekend, or do you find yourself outdoors doing some type of activity until you can't go another step?
Each of us are different. What you consider restful may be boring to others. What you consider restful may be stressful to others. Perhaps we should take a step back and look at rest as something that rejuvenates you, something that brings you peace.
With that said, what brings you peace?
Some people find peace in long bicycle rides. Some find peace hanging by a rope as they climb a rock face. Some find peace sitting on a beach on some tropical island.
Where do you find peace?
Do you want true peace?
Do you want to be able to surrender all of the troubles of this world and walk in peace?
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
(John 16:33 (NIV))
Do you long for a perfect peace that can never be taken away?
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:7 (ESV))
This type of peace, this type of rest is available. All you have to do is accept it.
Godly rest.
True peace that passes understanding!
