Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 6:33 (NIV))
Each of us have things that we long for. We all have things that we strive to take hold of and cling to as tightly as we can.
To put it simply, each of us have priorities.
What are yours?
What is the last thing that you think of before falling asleep? What is the first thing that you think of when you wake up? What fills your every waking thought?
What do your spending patterns show? What do your entertainment choices show? What do your choice of friends show?
I realize that these are a lot of questions, but I wanted to set the stage to draw your attention to yourself and your thoughts. Even with all of the above questions, there are more that I need to ask.
What does your prayer life show? Are your prayers infrequent and self-centered? Are you prayers only offered up when you need something?
What does your alone time look like? Does it reflect what we are repeatedly told all throughout God's Word?
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
(Psalm 46:10 (ESV))
Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling
(Zechariah 2:13 (NIV))
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
(Psalm 37:7 (NIV))
We must make it a priority to be still in His presence. We must make it a priority to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.
What are your priorities?
