Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
(2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV))
Has freedom taken up residency in your life?
Think about that question and your answer very carefully. Don't simply gloss over the truth because you don't want to confront it in your life.
Let me ask another question. How can you tell if the Spirit of the Lord is in your life?
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
(Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV))
Do you strive to live out these characteristics? Do you desire to walk out your faith on a daily basis so that others see these characteristics in you? Do you long to live in such a way that causes other people to ask you why your life is different than all of those around you?
Are you bearing fruit?
You should be!
Believers have been bearing fruit and showing the freedom that comes only from the Spirit of the Lord since the early church.
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,
(Colossians 1:9-11 (NIV))
Too many people think of freedom as the ability to do what you want when you want. True freedom comes from the knowledge that we are all sinners destined to face an eternal death but that we are saved by grace through the atoning blood of Christ. When we truly come to this realization, our whole outlook changes. We truly begin to live in freedom.
Are you living in freedom?
