Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
(Matthew 9:38 (NIV))
Do you volunteer for tasks at work, or do you sit back and hope that something else doesn't get assigned to you?
Think about your answer in the context of what is written in Matthew.
Have you answered the call to be sent out into His harvest field?
In other words, do you look at the Body of Christ and think what's in it for me, or do you look beyond the Body of Christ and look at the lost world and ask how can God use me?
Are you willing to go?
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
(Matthew 28:19-20a (NIV))
We have been given a command to share the Gospel. We have been given a task to let the world know about the grace and mercy that is only available through Jesus. Too many people think that the world is other nations somewhere else, but they fail to realize that they are part of the world. They also fail to realize that the world consists of their neighbors, people they see in the store, and people that they pass on the street. I blame television and automobiles, for we have gotten used to seeing the world from behind a "protective" screen that keeps the world out while we simply watch it pass us by. We no longer participate. We have become spectators.
That concept is also sadly true for those of us who profess a faith in Jesus. We hide behind things that keep us mere spectators while those we watch are desperately in need of Jesus. We look upon the world and think that someone else will share Jesus with them.
We must step outside of our comfort zones and answer the call.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
(Isaiah 6:8 (NIV))
We must realize that we are the workers in His harvest field.
