"You shall have no other gods before me.
(Exodus 20:3 (NIV))

This is a tough one!

As I sit here reading and rereading this passage, I find myself being distracted. I find myself admitting that I don't always place God first in my life, even though that is my desire.

What about you?

Have you unwillingly placed something above God?

We all do it. We all fail miserably even when we don't want to. We don't know what he was referring to, but Paul admitted that he did things that he didn't want to do. He overcame the temptations by focusing on Jesus, and we can, too!

It starts with admission. It starts with identifying the things that you have turned into gods in your life. It starts with a repentant and humble heart.

Are you able to do these things?

Due to the fall from grace in the Garden of Eden, we can't do it on our own. We can't overcome our sin, our lust, our pride, and our greed. We can't overcome our selfishness and our desire to fill our lives with things that give instant pleasure. We are all sinners.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
(Romans 3:23 (NIV))

Each of us has missed the mark by placing anything and everything above God.

It is time to take a long, hard look at our lives and reestablish our priorities starting with no other gods before our God!

What are your priorities?

What have you turned into your god?
