Is there anything or anyone that you idolize?

Let me rephrase that question into something that may make more sense.

How would you react if you met your favorite actor or athlete? Would you stammer and be awestruck by their presence? Do you idolize these individuals? Have they become your gods?

Think about that. We can make idols of people and we can make idols of things such as wealth, fame and power. In the end, this only makes us place our priorities, our focus, and our praise in a direction that is not worthy of such attention. We have taken the One true God and replaced Him with an idol that is completely powerless and worth nothing even if our idols are human, for we are all as filthy rags. No one is worthy.

Take a look at your life.

Take a look at your priorities.

I have often heard that if you want to know someone's priorities, look at their spending habits. We can lie to others and to ourselves, but our money tells a tale of what we honestly value.

What do you value?

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
(1 Peter 5:8 (NIV))

The enemy sees what we value and he uses that to create idols in our lives. He uses these idols to move us away from the relationship with the Lord that we were created to have. In other words, the enemy uses the things that we like and then dangles them like a carrot in front of a horse. He tricks us into following our desires until they have become sinful idols.

What do you idolize?
