"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
(Exodus 20:12 (NIV))
The enemy has been waging a war on families for a very long time!
He is doing everything that he can to tear apart what God has created. It started with murder within the first family to live on this earth, and then divorce when Moses led the Israelites. It has turned into the murder of unborn babies, and now there is a new trend that is even impacting families who profess a faith in Jesus. It is a trend that is running rampant in today's society. It is so rampant that major newspapers are reporting on it. It is so rampant that studies have been conducted to determine why it is happening.
The latest attack relies on the enemy using the truth this passage to alienate adult children from parents!
It is impossible to honor your father and your mother if you refuse to speak to them.
It is impossible to honor your father and your mother if you have bought into the lies from the enemy telling you to break what God has created.
This attack of the enemy, this trend has a name.
Estrangement!
A big word for a sin that reportedly impacts as many as one in four families in this country.
I want you to think about the story of the Prodigal Son and how it relates to this attack.
Is it any different?
No matter what sin drives a wedge between us, we can always return. God created a way for us to return to Him by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus, to bring us back into His grace and mercy. Family estrangement is no different. Both are caused by attacks from the enemy, and when that realization is reached, restoration can occur. It is this restoration that breaks the power of the enemy over our lives.
There is an old saying that there is nothing new under the sun.
It is also understood that we are at war. The enemy is still doing the same thing, The enemy is simply trying to destroy what God has created. The enemy is lashing out because he knows that his time is short.
Turn to Jesus and allow Him to heal every broken heart.
How are we living today?
