You shall not steal.
(Exodus 20:15 (NIV))

Several years ago I was a witness to this commandment being broken, and the sad thing about it is that the thief didn't look like he cared!

He knew that there were people sitting in the cars around the one that he broke into, but it didn't stop him. He was very brazen in his activities. He was very focused on getting what he set out to steal. Ironically, this thief's attitude is not too far off of the way that thieves operate these days. There seems to be an attitude of "try and stop me" even when there are witnesses. What could possibly be going through someone's mind that would tell them to commit such an act? Some people speculate that it is a complete disrespect of anything besides themselves. They put themselves above all others and soon come to the conclusion that they deserve something better, so they take it. They are never satisfied with what they have and they don't desire to work to change it. They want a quick solution.

Stealing is an act of a misguided heart. A heart that treasures things that should not be treasured. A heart that soon turns the treasure into a lust, and then it turns into an overwhelming desire that cannot be overcome.

Does that sound familiar?

Satan, who was the loveliest of all creation, was so self-centered that he thought that he should be God. All that he could do was think of this, and eventually, he tried to take what he wanted. He was cast out and now roams this world. Ever since then, thieves have been emulating Satan in his selfish motives with innocent people coming into harms way.

If you treasure gold so much that it fills your heart, then you will soon find yourself doing things to obtain that gold. Don't allow your heart to treasure something to the point that it leads to sin. Treasure Jesus in all that you do.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(Matthew 6:21 (NIV))

The ultimate treasure is already yours!
