You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
(Exodus 20:16 (NIV))

Lying is a human characteristic that has far-reaching repercussions.

There is no such thing as a "little white lie." This phrase implies something of no significance and "white" implies purity. How can a sin be pure and of no significance? God has told us not to lie or give false testimony against our neighbor. That is a sin by definition.

Do you remember what Jesus answered when he was asked "Who is my neighbor?"

Do you think that it matters whether you lie against someone who lives across town from you? Do you think it matters if he lives half way around the world from you? Jesus told us in the parable that everyone is our neighbor. If that is true, and even a "little white lie" is a sin, then anything that we speak that is untrue about anyone is a direct violation of the command that God has given us in these words.

If it is a sin and God cannot allow sin into His presence, then we are truly lost without someone to intercede for us.

That someone is Jesus!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
(John 1:1-2(NIV))

God sent His Son, Jesus, to allow us to be brought back into His Kingdom. This is not by our works but through the grace and mercy that is available to anyone who will simply acknowledge that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of their life.

Consider that God has said that it is a sin to lie.

Later, His Word tells us that only through Jesus can we be saved.

Think back on your life. Some of us may only have to look at the last twenty-four hours. Is there someone that you gave false testimony about? Do you need to repent? Do you need to ask forgiveness of your neighbor?
